Testicular Cancer What is Testicular Cancer?
Testicular cancer is a disease when testicular cells appear to become abnormal. Testicular Cancer can affect one or both testicles. Although it is mostly found in young men, it can also be found in older men. It is highly curable and treatment for it is readily available. Symptoms of Testicular Cancer: Symptoms of Testicular Cancer range from zero to many. Symptoms include: heaviness in the scrotum, discomfort or pain throughout the testicles.Lumps or swelling in the prostate area. Pain in the back or abdomen. Excess fluid in scrotum. Enlargement in the testicles. Causes of Testicular Cancer: The exact causes remain unknown but it can be linked to other conditions. Family history of testicular cancer can be a sign that your prostate needs to be regularly checked. Another cause is changes in chromosomes that turn on oncogenes or turn off tumor suppressor genes. Treatment for Testicular Cancer: The treatment for testicular cancer depends on what stage the cancer has reached, and the size of the cancerous cell(s).Fortunately this type of cancer has many treatment options and achieving remission is a high possibility. Surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy/high dose chemo, and stem cell transplant. How to Perform a Self-Exam: The best time to self exam yourself is when you are fully exposed like while a shower, or bath. First you hold out the penis and examine each testicle looking for any signs of lumps or swelling. Then roll your testicles in between your fingers. If you notice one testicle is considerably larger than the other, notify your doctor. Risk Factors of Treatment: Although Testicular Cancer is treatable it comes with side effects. One major side effect is the inability to produce sperm, meaning there is no chance of you reproducing naturally. Radiation therapy has been known to increase the risk factors of developing other cancers. Lung damage, heart disease, damaged nerves, and lack of testosterone are also side effects of receiving treatment. Thank you for visiting my page! |
