General Information:
Skin is the largest organ of the human body. It is made mostly of proteins and lipids. On average, skin weighs about six pounds. Skin has three layers: the epidermis, or the outer layer, the dermis, the middle layer, and the hypodermis, the fatty layer.
Skin Proteins:
Collagen: Makes up 75% of skin. Wards off wrinkles.
Elastin: Found in the dermis. Tightens skin.
Keratin: Building blocks of skin.

Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA)- Targets fine lines and pigmentation, evens skin tone, and reduces age spots and large pores. Sun sensitivity; may cause mild irritation.
Beta-hydroxy acid (salicylic acid)- Treats acne, repairs sun damage, improves texture and tone, exfoliates. Less irritating than AHA.
Hydroquinone- Skin bleacher. Removes dark marks.
Kojic Acid- Lightening agent.
Retinol- Improves pigment, targets fine lines, wrinkles. Improves texture, tone, and color. Skin hydrator.
L-Absorbic Acid- stimulates synthesis of collagen. Targets scars, wrinkles, and fine lines. Contains Vitamin C.

- Alpha-Lipoic Acid
- DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol)

- Drink lots of water
- Remove all dirt and makeup properly
- Moisturize Eat a balanced diet

- Apply sunscreen 20-30 minutes before sun or water exposure. Do not apply wet for most effectiveness

Hair is a protein filament that usually grow on every area of the human body, except for the palms of hands and the soles of feet. Due to it's light colors and short length, most of it goes unnoticed. It is most often seen on one's face, legs, armpits, ears,- pubic region, and head.

- Bulb- a swelling at the base of the hair that originates from the dermis
- Root- the hair that lies below the skin's surface
- Shaft- the hair above the skin's surface.

- Medulla- an area in the core which contains loose
- Cortex- contains large amounts of compact keratin
- Cuticle- a single layer of cells arranged like roof shingles
Health Tips:
- Wash oily hait often
- Concentrate on the scalp when shampooing
- Use conditioner aster every wash
- Choose products for specific hair type and needs
- Protect hair when swiming (pre-shampooing,deep conditioning, swim cap, etc.)
Nails
General Information
Nails grow when layers of keratin bind together and slowly extend out from the root of the nail bed towards the end of your finger. Nails start in the nail bed, a flat surface that lies under your nails and extends about 10mm beyond where you can see them. It takes 4-6 months to replace a full nail since they grow .1 millimeter a day.

Nail Layers:
- Nail Plate- The largest part of the nail. Composed of shiny keratin layers.
- Nail Bed-Lies underneath most of the nail plate and is an extension of the surrounding skin. Blood in the dermis of the nail bed give it a light pink color.
- Nail Folds- Surround the nail plate on three of its sides. Provides some support to the plate. It is the ladder between the skin and nail plate. May be slightly darker in color.
- Cuticle (eponychium)- The thin piece of flesh that falls over the nail plate. Prevents injury and infection of the matrix by sealing the nail sinus.
- Nail Matrix- Stores the cells that will later become layers keratin on the nail plate.
Health Tips
- Keep nails clean and dry
- Cut nail regulary, to an even lenght
- Do not dig out ingrown toenails
- Do not bite nails or cuticles
- Trim toenails often
- Wear well-fitted shoes
